When I became a father, nobody told me that the job would include helping my child find chicken coop designs that we could build. I was raised in Chicago and the only chickens I’d ever seen were either at the zoo, or in the meat section of the grocery store. For added information do Click here

You can imagine my surprise when my son came home from school telling me all about how easy it is to raise chickens and how he wanted to try it. Once he got his mother on his side, I gave up any semblance of protest.

My wife and son took on the task of finding the best chicken coop designs on the Internet. What they decided on was a straightforward, no-nonsense e-book with clear step-by-step instructions and easy-to-read diagrams.

I have to say I was very impressed with this book. Despite its very reasonable price, it was packed with a wealth of information. It gave detailed instructions for building a movable chicken coop, a slightly bigger coop and a deluxe large coop.

I also appreciated that the book included detailed instructions on how to find the best and least expensive materials. In addition, the book download included extra modules on positioning your chicken coop and how to build nesting boxes cheaply.

We decided on a movable ark-type chicken coop design for our first experience. It took us less than a weekend to finish our project. Here’s the part I still can’t get over – we’re getting chicks in the mail. That’s right. The US Post Office actually delivers baby chicks!

Building chicken coops takes skill, knowledge, and a time commitment. While you can easily build a chicken house from some random plan out there, unless you know about a few key critical factors, the chances are very good that you’re going to wind up having to spend more money down the road to make adjustments to this coop.

Here are the main factors to consider.

Choosing Your Size Based On Bird Number

Building chicken coops properly is going to heavily depend on you choosing the right size for the coop. When you are not selecting the correct building size, your chickens are going to be too crowded and will not produce eggs as you wished.

Instead, choose a chicken house that is slightly larger than what you need, that way you know you’ll be safe and if something should happen that you decide you want to raise more chickens, it won’t be an issue.

Ventilation Is A Must

Moving on, another very critical thing to consider is ventilation. Ventilation is what will help ensure there is enough airflow circulating throughout the coop so your chickens get fresh air, the coop doesn’t begin to smell, and it will be much more enjoyable for you if you want to enter into it.

Proper chicken coop ventilation can be accomplished by windows or some type of electrical fan set-up, so read into the different methods and determine which one is right for you.

Lighting is going to be the final thing that you need to concern yourself with when preparing to build your chicken house. Natural lighting is going to be the best type, but this is not always possible.

Reading about how to structural face your chicken coop in the right direction though so you can maximize your lighting source will help with this regard. At the very least position the windows in a spot where natural light will shine in, enhancing the amount of light you receive.

If you do not happen to get enough natural sunlight, then consider electrical light.

By keeping these three critical factors in mind as you go about building chicken coops, you will be happy with the end product and it will help you have fresh eggs for years.

The first thing to remember when you want to Build a Chicken House is that it does not need to be complicated. Chickens are very undemanding birds and with a few basic needs covered they will provide you with the freshest eggs imaginable.

What You Need To Build a Chicken House

The amount of materials you will need depends on the number of birds you are going to keep and the size you wish to build. They do not need a large amount of space as much of their time will be spent outside the actual Coop.

What you will need are materials to build the coop, a door, a few logs for them to perch on and a few containers for them to lay eggs in. You can also add feeders for water and feed. These can be bought or simply use containers you have around the house.

How To Build a Chicken House

The simplest way is to cheat! Before you begin to construct anything make sure you look through all the local papers for people selling old sheds and small wooden structures. Free cycle is also a very good resource whatever country you are in.

An old shed is ideal for Chickens and it will save you all the work.

If you are going to build a chicken house keep it simple. You can use brick, block or wood. Just remember it does not have to be a giant structure. You can build something of only a few feet high if you wish. It could have a hinged top so you have easy access to it.

All the Chickens need is to be able to perch on something just off the ground to sleep. Don’t over complicate things. A small, low to the ground Chicken house is ideal and cheap. It could be as simple as two wooden triangle joined together by long runners and then covered in any waterproof material. Use your imagination and stick within your budget.

Block is very permanent and has the advantage that it is easy to clean. It will also last forever and is my preference. You can easily build something over a weekend. It does not have to be a work of art, just functional. A few sheets of corrugated roofing and you are basically done.

Keep it simple, don’t worry if you are not an expert, it is for function not beauty. Above all remember to try and get materials for free if possible.

Are you thinking of taking care of a few chickens in your backyard? If you are, then you will need to have a Backyard Chicken Coops. Here is everything that you need to know about it.

A Backyard Chicken Coops can accommodate a small number of chickens. Usually four or five chickens can comfortably live in a square based chicken coop. This is usually the most number of chickens allowed in some places.

Most small chicken coops are portable or movable coops. They allow owners to transfer the coop from one place to another. Movable coops should be made of lightweight materials for easy handling. They are also made such that the chickens will not be injured during moves.

Chicken coops should protect the chickens from the effects of bad weather. It is said that strong wind drafts are not good for them so it will be good if you will build walls that will prevent chickens from being hit by strong drafts.

However, it is not always advisable to have solid walls since chickens also need proper ventilation. You do not want your chickens to suffocate during hot and humid days. So the best way to deal with this is to have covers that can be adjusted depending on the weather. It should be something that can be rolled down when there is strong wind blowing or rolled up when the air is hot.

Chicken coops are also supposed to prevent predator attacks. Small portable chicken coops can be transferred to safe places when you are not home to ward off predators. Fixed coops can be mounted in the ground with the walls also buried to prevent animals that dig their way in from attacking the chickens.

A sBackyard Chicken Coops is easy to make. They require inexpensive materials that can be easily bought in any hardware store in your area. There are also chicken coop kits available if you know nothing about carpentry. They are modular and can assembled using only a screwdriver and some pieces of screw.
